Spanish City Plaza, Whitley Bay, NE26 1BG

Dating back to 1910, the iconic domed roof of Spanish City can be seen far and wide, evoking many fun filled and cherished memories of years gone by. Holding a place in the heart of many locals, the building was originally a concert hall with a ballroom added in 1920, followed by a popular funfair, before closing in 1999. The restored building now boats a choice of dining experiences with a steak and seafood restaurant, a stylish champagne bar, a fish and chips restaurant and a decadent tea room, all offering outstanding views of the North East coastline to enjoy whilst you dine.

St. Mary's Lighthouse ·

St Mary's Island Causeway, Whitley Bay, NE26 4RS

St. Mary’s Lighthouse stands proud on a tiny little rocky, tidal island, linked to the mainland by a short concrete causeway which is submerged at high tide. Climb the 137 steps to the top of the lighthouse for the most spectacular views of the North East coastline. You can also discover the history of the Lighthouse and gain an insight into the wildlife of St. Mary’s Nature Reserve.

Stephenson Railway Museum ·

English railway engineers George Stephenson and his son, Robert Stephenson spent 20 years in North Tyneside pioneering ideas which helped spread railways and locomotives around the world. In honour and in celebration of their achievements, the Stephenson Railway Museum presents a fascinating locomotive display including George Stephenson's 'Billy', a forerunner of the world-famous Rocket. Animated film and displays explore how trains work and on scheduled days, you can even take a ride on a 1950s passenger train pulled by steam.
